How Nextep Works

1 in 3 African citizens don’t have access to safely managed drinking water. Lack of water and poor sanitation is one of the biggest causes of poverty in climate-vulnerable regions.

Nexteppers convert their steps to fund borehole projects in Africa and reduce the time and effort spent in vulnerable communities to access clean water. We dream of a future where no one lacks water accessibility and decent sanitation.

Let’s achieve that together.

Borehole Projects

Borehole projects are emission reduction projects improving water accessibility through the construction of boreholes. The objective is to provide safe and clean drinking water to local communities within a reasonable proximity.

All projects are accredited by international registries and third-party verifiers, certifying their real-world impact and contribution to sustainable development.

Partners

Our stakeholders, including project developers, contractors, third-party registries, and software developers form a mission-aligned ecosystem to build borehole projects and scale the impact.

Improving Water Accessibility in Uganda

83% of Uganda’s population lack access to a clean and safely managed source of water. Women and children shoulder a vital responsibility: walking kilometers day-to-day to collect water.

The excessive time and effort spent for water collection hinders locals’ ability to work and go to school, which affects economic development in the region.

At Nextep, we set out to build borehole projects to facilitate a time-intensive task. Projects foster sustainable development and economic growth, as locals allocate the earned time to education and work.

SDG Impact

UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a universal call of 17 goals aiming to resolve social, economic, and environmental challenges. Borehole projects contribute to several SDGs, supporting sustainable development in climate-vulnerable regions.

One Step Closer to

Clean Water

In Africa, locals spend an hour every day on average, taking 6000 steps to reach clean water.

A metropolitan takes around 5000 steps every day. By converting your steps, you fund borehole projects which provide safe drinking water for locals within a 10-minute walking distance.

Take 5000 steps every day with Nextep to meet one local’s water needs in a year.

Clean Air

Africa accounts for 2–3 per cent of the world's carbon emissions.

One typical borehole project reduces around 10.000 tonnes of CO₂e every year. Every 5000 steps you take with Nextep compensates for around 700 grams of CO₂e daily.

Reduce your carbon footprint with Nextep on the way to becoming carbon neutral.
